SUZHOU DESIGN WEEK – MELBOURNE GUEST CITY 


In 2020, Suzhou and Melbourne signed the "Suzhou-Melbourne 2020-2022 Three-Year Cultural and Creative Field Cooperation Agreement". Under the framework, Melbourne was invited to be the city of honor for the 2021 Suzhou International Design Week. The design week was a great opportunity, and the two cities will continue to conduct dialogues, exchanges, and cooperate across the fields of fashion, technology and industrial deisgn, urban planning, culture and art.


As the city of honor, the City of Melbourne joined by other Victorian government agencies such as Creative Victoria, Global Business Victoria, Tourism Victoria, Melbourne Convention Bureau, Monash University, National Gallery of Victoria and other relevant industry representatives in Melbourne to present city events which were co-organized and executed by Melbourne PR Asia and Suzhou YISU Design. 

These city events showcased the capital of fashion, design and art – Melbourne. In addition, Melbourne also appeared in the "Design·Pingjiang Night" event.


At the opening event, the Mayor of Melbourne, Sally Cape, delivered a speech via video. She expressed that Suzhou's long history and culture; strong economic strength and innovation ability are all important foundations for the cooperation between the two cities. As the capital of creativity and culture, Melbourne is honored to be a part of Suzhou International Design Week. Shari Cape also delivered the hope that through the collective wisdom of the two cities, the economic construction and urban prosperity after the epidemic will be jointly promoted.


Starting from December 8th, a nearly one-month-long the city of honor event showcased the diversity of Melbourne cultural sectors: ‘The Melbourne Black Box Design and Innovation Achievement Exhibition’ - an event that features Melbourne's industrial design and innovation through 40 design inventions; ‘Experience of Melbourne’ - an event which allowed Suzhou citizens to experience Melbourne’s day to day lifestyle with fashion, food and coffee; and a whole range of other events including ‘Melbourne Online Fashion Week’, ‘Frontyard Community Youth Mural Exhibition’ and ‘Suzhou International Design Week-Victoria State Livable City Exhibition Forum’ and a lot more. The event was also be broadcasted online to allow more audiences experience to ‘visit’ Melnourne.
