CHINESE FILM WEEK 2021 HOBART


From May 28th to June 3rd, 2021, a 7-day Chinese Film Week took place in Hobart, Tasmania. The event was hosted by the Consulate-General of The People Republic of China in Melbourne, co-organized by PR Asia and the Joint Council of Chinese Associations in Tasmania, and supported by the CMC Pictures.


Consul General Long Zhou; Tasmanian Attorney General and Arts Minister Ms. Archer; Tasmanian MP Mr. Johnston; Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade Director of Tasmania Office Mr. Ault; Hobart City Councilor Dr. Sherlock and over 100 deputies and officials from a wide range of sector attended this film week. In his speech, Mr. Long Zhou stress that “this is the first time in recent years that the Chinese Consulate General has held a Chinese Film Week in Hobart. These outstanding movies showcased the past and present of China, and reflected the spirit and life of Chinese people. The event was a great opportunity for the Australia audiences to get to know the Chinese culture.”


The Chinese movies were enjoyed by more than 1,000 audiences; The movies selections included a wide range of themes, from traditional Kungfu actions to sci-fi, and animations which were loved by children. During the opening ceremony, “Cliff Walkers" was played as an opening special to the film week, this movie was a top-hit since its release.


In addition, the film week not only was an amazing opportunity for the Chinese community in Australia to make connection with their motherland, but also a positive improvement to the relationship between Australia and China as it promoted cultural exchanges and enhanced bonds between people.
